Jenny Seagrove and Sara Crowe star in a new adaptation of Noël Coward’s sparkling comedy Fallen Angels at the Devonshire Park Theatre from September 16-21.
Just over 10 years ago Bill Kenwright wowed the West End with this wonderfully funny play and now returns to present a cocktail of comedy, charm, and sophistication in this heavenly new production of Noël Coward’s divine comedy classic.
Jenny and Sara star as best friends Julia and Jane, both living happy comfortable lives in staid marriages and both having previously had a torrid affair with the same sophisticated Frenchman. While their husbands play golf, their mutual long-ago-lover announces his intention to pay them an impromptu visit and cracking open the champagne the hilarious farcical foibles of the two ‘fallen angels’ begin to unfold.
As each successive glass of liquid courage is imbibed, tongues start to loosen, hidden jealousies surface, the claws come out, and all attempts at demure behaviour go out the window. But it’s not until the unexpected early return of their golfing husbands that the women’s evening really hits its frenzied peak.
Jenny Seagrove, prolific West End leading lady and best known as TV’s barrister Jo Mills in the BAFTA award-winning Judge John Deed, is joined by multi-award winning comedy actress Sara Crowe (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Born and Bred, ).
This is a cork-popping double-act performance, which sees Noel Coward’s signature of suavity and polish contrasted with the absurdly comedic behaviour from the characters’ not-so-hidden wanton desires!
