Eastbourne Choral Society aims to raising the roof – and vital funds – when it performs excerpts from Handel’s Messiah on Sunday, December 8, to celebrate the opening of the new St Wilfrid’s Hospice. Choir members will join vocal forces to deliver a number of rousing and uplifting excerpts from Handel’s masterpiece, including And the Glory of the Lord, Unto us a Child is Born and the famous Hallelujah chorus.

Musical Director John Hancorn will lead the 80-piece choir - with both baton and voice - as it performs in the Hospice’s new large, acoustic atrium.

John, who has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in opera, oratorio and consort singing, will perform the solo bass parts. Joining him are two young soloists embarking on professional careers – soprano Shona Hull and Alto Clara Kanter – and the choir’s leading Tenor, Rod Brown. Completing the musical line-up will be trained classical pianist Nancy Cooley.

The performance starts 7pm and tickets priced £25, which includes canapés and a glass of wine. Contact Robert Crew at the hospice on 01323 434221 to book.
