Four local artists, collectively known as un.FOLD will show a varied exhibition of textile in the Birley Centre, from January 9-31, weekends only from 10-4pm.
The work will reflect the trend to hang textile pieces in a white wall gallery environment. The artists involved - Christine Chester, Christina Ellcock, Sally Skaife and Sarah Welsby - have shown work regularly in curated exhibitions, books about textile processes, and international art quilt competitions.
During the show they will ask visitors to participate in a small community art project, responding to a variety of ‘curious’ objects. Small book forms will be created with these collaborative works and provide a display for the group’s exhibition in London. On the last weekend, there will be an opportunity to discuss the work with the artists who will ‘walk and talk’ around the gallery.
