The Eastbourne Music and Arts Festival, started in 1961, is to have a new venue for its speech and music classes.
The Festival which takes place on February 14-22 2014 will be using the facilities of The Birley Centre, the multimillion pound state of the art performance centre at Eastbourne College which sits within the cultural hub alongside The Congress Theatre, Towner Art Gallery and also the Winter Garden which will host the dance, choirs and choral speaking sessions as always.
Financial assistance is available to help schools with transportation costs in the choir and choral speaking groups, made possible by a grant from educational charity, Fonthill Foundation. The Festival invites teachers to contact firstname.lastname@example.org or 01323 729013 to apply for funding.
The Festival’s executive chairman, John Crawshaw, said, “We are delighted to be expanding our Festival venues to include such a marvellous performing arts facility for our young competitors to experience.
“The Birley Centre is a convenient neighbour to the Winter Garden where we will be running our enormously popular dance and group speech and singing classes concurrently.
“With the two venues we are looking for additional volunteers to get involved with stewarding and other aspects of running this important community event for our local youth so please contact us if you can give a few hours of your time.”
• The closing date for entries for the music, speech and drama classes is November 5. Go to http://www.eastbournemusicandartsfestival.org/ for more details and entry forms.
