THE Devonshire Park Theatre, Eastbourne, is providing the stage for the 10th International World Dance Championships in Modern Dance Sport and Disabled Dance.

There will be more than 24 different member countries participating competing for medals and trophies in different dance disciplines including belly dance, boogie woogie, break dance, salsa, disco, folk, funky, hip hop, tap dance, techno and twist.

So far, 850 competitors from 25 dance teams from countries including Spain, Italy, India, Hungary, Lithuania and Poland, have booked to stay in Eastbourne.

The event organisers are the IDF (International Dance Federation) World Dance Championships and they have more than 1,500 competitors registered.

The event starts with an opening ceremony on May 23 involving a flag-waving parade from the Eastbourne Bandstand area to the Winter Garden.

As part of the event, the organisers are staging a charity show on May 26, Do It for Dance aid, where stars from shows like Britain’s Got Talent, Got To Dance and So You Think you Can Dance perform to raise money for this worthy cause.

Dance aid aims to raise money for children in Africa, Asia and the UK by harnessing the energy of dance.
