At the time of his disappearance was awaiting agreement for discharge back into the care of the Thanet Community Care Team in Kent.

That discharge agreement was finalised five days later.

Mr Luff is described as white, approximately 5ft 8in, and of medium build with short receding mousy coloured hair.

He was last seen wearing a dark green body warmer, grey trousers, black socks and brown sandals.

PC Tina Hepburn said; “William, who used to live in Herne Bay, Kent, has mental illness and is not considered a risk to the public, but is vulnerable. We have been carrying widespread enquiries in both Sussex and Kent and have circulated his details to our own officers and other agencies who may be able to help.

“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his disappearance but as each day passes we are becoming more concerned. He does not know the West Sussex area and it is believed that he has no access to funds. He may have made his way back to Kent.

“We are appealing for any sightings of William to be reported to us via 101 quoting Serial 1605 of 09/08. You can also contact us by email on ‘contact.centre@sussex.pnn.police.uk’ quoting the same reference.”
