Swim team pipped by Beacon in final heat relay

Eastbourne Swimming Club

Eastbourne Swimming Club

Eastbourne Swimming Club were on top form when they travelled to Crowborough to compete in the Andy Holden Shield Swimming Gala.

They took first place in the first event of the evening, the Breaststroke Squadron Relay. That, followed by great performances from Hannah O’Sullivan, Charlotte Shooter-Harris ,Reece Bishop, Alice Greenland, Matt Tyler, Ghazali Owasil, Charlie Edwards, Lauren Manson, Sean Wright, Louis Wood, Chloe Hughes and team gala first timer Kerris Senior, put Eastbourne ahead of closest rivals, Beacon, at the half way mark.

Lauren Goldsmith, Josh Lemon and James Grimmond made easy work of their 50m backstroke events, all getting maximum points for their team, and for Thivya Kularajan a closely fought backstroke race saw her just get in first at the touch.

With only one point separating Eastbourne and Beacon and 10 events to go, and with first places for Jack Lyndsay and a 2nd place for Harriet Farrington.

The U13 Medley Relay team romped home with a two second lead. Every member of the squadron gave 100 per cent and the race between Beacon and Eastbourne kept everyone on the edge of their seats.

In the end it was Beacon’s night with Eastbourne taking second place losing out on the trophy by only 13 points.

Despite the result this was another magnificent performance from the Eastbourne Team and one they can be proud of.
