Royal Eastbourne junior golfer Jack Edwards (pictured left) won his first trophy at a fine round of 88 (net 61) to win on count back from Jake Sage.

Jack’s round was his best to date on the Devonshire course and included several pars, a number of bogeys and just a couple of doubles.

A solid par three on the final hole was to prove crucial when the scores were added up. Third place went to James Oglesby with a round of 87 (net 62).

In the Edward Counsell Trophy, play was in doubt following heavy overnight rain that continued right through to midday.

The start was delayed by 30 minutes while competition organiser Richard Ager assessed the course before giving the green light for play.

With 19 players teeing up to contest the first junior trophy of the season, the clouds broke and play got under way.

With juniors aged 12 through to 18, and handicaps ranging from 3 to 28 playing, it was one of the youngest players who would eventually receive the trophy. The lowest gross round of the day went to Jack Hughes with a solid round of 76 (net 66)

REGC Ladies: First place in Silver Division in the May medal was won by Jean Boydell on countback, Sarah Ager taking second place also with net 73. Third was Janet Seaton net 74. First, second and third places were on countback also in Bronze 1 with Lizzie Carol, Judy Horner and Jan Smith all scoring net 73. Margaret Thornton’s net 78 put her in first place in Bronze two Meanwhile Angela Cole and Alice Millest progress to Round 4 of the Daily Mail Foursomes. After beating Lewes on the 19th hole following a very close game, they also won the next round with another home draw against Weald of Kent as the home pair won on the 17th hole.
