Outstanding display from young athletes

Some great times were posted at the National Young Athletes League held at Eastbourne as six teams competed in blustery conditions

In the Boys U17 Duane Jibonah was outstanding and came first in the Discus in a high class field of competitors. He threw 39.40, a Grade 2 UKA Standard, Duane also won the Shot Putt with a Grade 3 UKA Standard putting 12.28 metres.

On the track Luke McWilton won the 800m A race in fine style in 2.02.1 seconds a UKA Grade 4 Standard. He was also 1st in the 1500 B race with 4.33.1.

Jake Alger won the A 1500m race in 4.27.5 and was third in the Javelin A in a good standard field. While Ieuan Handley won the 800 metres U17 B race in 2.09.8 seconds and achieved a Grade 4 UKA standard when winning the 1500 Steeplechase in 4.53.1.

The U17 squad of Luke McWilton, Jake Alger, Ben Attfield and Matt Harrison beat off stiff opposition to win the 4 x 400m relay in a time of 3.44.5 seconds.

In the U17 Girls, excellent performances were seen from Ellie Farringdon who was second in the high jump with 1.48metres and Esther Reynolds third in 45.9 seconds in the 300A race. Heidi Burgess finished second in the B race. Emily Barker was third in the 100A U17 Girls with Emelia Boyland second in the B race.

Dylan Halpin was a worthy winner in the U13 Boys Long Jump with a leap of 4.30 metres

Matt Harrison, who also ran splendidly the day before at the Sussex Schools, was third in the 200 metres A race in a strong field while Danny Hatcher was second in the B race.

Robert Turner came third in the U17 Long Jump with a leap of 5.53 and Danny Hatcher second in the B string.
