Eastbourne U14s Rugby Team

Eastbourne U14s Rugby Team

Eastbourne U14s’ long awaited tour happened in Poole last Saturday and Sunday.

The squad, known as the ERFC Titans, travelled to the Poole area last Friday in preparation for their tour games.

Their festival group consisted of Dorchester, Crawley, Bletchley, Old Leamingtonians, Maidstone, Chelmsford and Exeter Chiefs.

The squad played four games during Saturday and three games over Sunday afternoon. The games on Saturday started with a solid encounter with Dorchester (County Champions for the last four years) during which they started slowly before getting into their stride but ran out losers by 17–0.

A 5-5 draw with Crawley followed and The Titans switched on for their remaining two games. They played with more resilience, enterprise and spirit, which produced some great rugby and secured a 31–0 win against Chelmsford and a 33–5 win against Bletchley.

On Sunday the first game was a thrilling encounter against Old Leamingtonians with a hard fought battle being settled by two breakthrough tries to the Gladiators - Titans 0, Gladiators 10.

This seemed however to have an interesting and productive impact on the Titans who then went on to defeat Maidstone 5–0 in a well fought and exciting game, before facing up to Exeter Chiefs. The expectation that this team linked to the Aviva league based – Exeter Chiefs would produce a thrilling, exciting, running rugby outcome – the expectations were realised. The Titans more than contributed their percentage of entertainment and this resulted in a crowd pleasing spectacle. Unfortunately the Titans lost by 14 – 5.

The Titans played seven, lost three, drew one and won three. They finished fourth and were very satisfied by being named the Fair Play Team of the Tournament for their age group.

This was particularly pleasing as the tournament referees decided the recipients of this award.

The players were presented with an individual trophy and Simon Godin received the Fair Play award from Mark Regan (ex Bristol, Bath, Leeds and England International).

The squad members had a great weekend with some great team bonding and, a thoroughly superb team performance.
