England dream alive and kicking for young Kellie

Talented Eastbourne footballer Kellie Larkin is on the brink of representing England after attending an Elite Performance camp at the Bristol Academy.

Kellie, 14, is a student at the Willingdon Community College and plays for the Brighton & Hove Albion FC Girls Centre of Excellence.

She joined 63 other girls from across the country in a variety of intense training and fitness exercises.

Kellie impressed at the academy and has been placed on stand-by to play for England U15 against Holland in Amsterdam next week. The match is however in serous doubt due to the heavy snow.

Before attending the Elite Performance Camp, Kellie first took part in a testing day, where she underwent an endurance test and recovery tests.

The camps are designed to provide top class training and support to players that show international potential at U15 level, with a programme of activities that reflects their needs as elite sportswomen of the future. They consist of intensive football tactics sessions and team-building exercises followed by ice baths to help tired muscles recover after their workout.

Physiotherapists are constantly on hand at all times, and the girls’ heart-rates are monitored throughout.

Kellie said, “The camps are a great opportunity for me to develop my skills and improve each time I attend.

“Being able to play alongside others with the same and better abilities as me really pushes and challenges me.

“It’s an important stepping stone to my lifelong dream to play for England.”

Centre manager Michelle Lawrence added, “Kellie is doing very well. She is working very hard at her game and is making good progess.”
