Birdie start helps Harri to Royal Salver success
Harri Belfield with Wendy Goodman
Young golfer Harri Belfield kept his concentration and won the Swedish Salver at the Royal Eastbourne junior competition.
Nearly 20 juniors played this year but it was 12-year-old Harri who got his round off to the perfect start when he birdied the very difficult and long par four opening hole.
Several pars and bogeys followed but Harri maintained concentration in the breezy conditions.
Another birdie was made at the tough 17th hole, followed by a four at the 18th.
Harri finished with a fine round of 86 (net 61) to claim his junior first trophy by five shots.
Junior Captain Alex Hughes, shot an excellent 74 (net 66) to finish runner up on countback from the ever consistent Jake Sage 80 (net 66).
Lowest gross round went to Hamish Houston with a two-over round of 72.
Lady Captain Wendy Goodman presented the prizes to all the winners, and is pictured with the 2012 winner Harri Belfield.
