Sussex close on Durham’s total

SUSSEX finished day two at Arundel on 100-3 in reply to Durham’s 231 all out on Thursday (July 19).

Sussex had reduced Durham to 175-8 before a 55-run stand between Scott Borthwick and Mitchell Claydon held Sussex up.

However, both fell in quick succession to Chris Nash, who took 2-5 in 10 balls.

Aussie Steve Magoffin claimed 3-28 off 22 overs and James Anyon and Monty Panesar also picked up two wickets each.

Mark Stoneman and Borthwick joint top-scored in Durham’s innings with 50 each.

Sussex lost Nash early in their reply for three, before Luke Wells and Joe Gatting put on 38 for the second wicket. Gatting was out lbw to Callum Thorp for a 58-ball 11 and Wells was then bowled by Thorp for 41 with the score on 59.

Murray Goodwin and captain Mike Yardy then guided Sussex to 100-3 at the close.
