EASTBOURNE Eagles’ team manager Trevor Geer remains confident despite his side’s disappointing double Good Friday defeat to Lakeside.
The Eagles lost comprehensively to Lakeside at both meets, first by a 55-36 score line at the Essex Arena and later at Arlington, where they only managed to reduce the deficit to 51-45.
However, Geer believes the team can turn it around when they head into a busy week, facing five meets in ten days.
He said, “We knew Friday would be tough because we had to use rider replacement. There was not one single guest rider available on the day so we couldn’t bring someone in.
“It would have been okay had our riders been doing really well, but some of them have been below par. If we’d had Joonas (Kylmakorpi) available, I think we could have won.”
Davey Watt, who was brought in as guest in Kylmakorpi’s absence, returned to Lakeside to face Eastbourne last weekend.
The Eagles, who have now slipped down from first to fifth in the table, meet with Wolverhampton Wolves at home on Saturday, before travelling to Monmore Green to face them again on Monday night. It will be the opening meet of the 2012 campaign for the Wolves.
Then, on Thursday they head up north again to race with Peterborough, before hosting the Panthers two days later. They finish a busy period with a trip to Belle Vue on April 23.
Geer said, “Friday was a disappointment but we need to pick ourselves up and get some points from the meets this week.
“I’m quite confident ahead of the Wolves meets. We have two days between the matches, which might do us good as opposed to the quick turn-around we had on Friday.”
Despite a very mixed start to the season that has seen Eastbourne win two and lose three, Geer is not fretting just yet.
“I’m still very confident in the team because we have got a very good side here. I do feel the only reason we lost on Friday was because of rider replacement.”
