Eagles aim to be a thorn in Poole’s side once again

Eastbourne Eagles face one of their toughest challenges of the season when they take on defending Elite League champions Poole on Saturday.

The mouth-watering match is set to draw a big crowd to the Arlington Stadium to see if the Trevor Geer’s men can upset the juggernaut from Dorset.

Eastbourne co-promoter Geer said, “We have been a thorn in their side in the past and there’s no reason why we cannot pull off a result on Saturday. We need all our boys to be fired up and if they are, we certainly stand a chance of winning.”

Poole, undefeated this year, ride tonight (Wednesday, May 30) at home to Wolverhampton and away tomorrow (Thursday, May 31) at Peterborough. Whatever the results of those two meetings, there’s no doubt that Poole are the “form team” at the moment.

Geer added, “Most of our boys have been riding in the last week. Cameron Woodward and Lewis Bridger had some good results at the weekend in Germany and Lukas Dryml has asked for track time at Arlington ahead of the meeting. We are ready and the lads know we cannot afford any slip-ups if we are to win.”

Eagles’ Joonas Kylmakorpi is now fit after recovering from injuries sustained in Eastbourne’s second match of the season at King’s Lynn in March. He rode successfully in Poland at the weekend.

However, Kylmakorpi and Simon Gustafsson miss the meeting against Poole because they are riding in a world championship qualifying round.

Geer said, “We have known this was always a possibility and I have decided to get a guest for Simon and use rider replacement at No1 for Joonas. This means that any team member can take one of his four programmed rides.”

Guest for Gustafsson is Jason Doyle, from Somerset, who doubles up for Swindon.
