Transport claim last promotion spot after Con Club victory
Railway, the Eastbourne & District Snooker League division three winners, completed their season with a 3-2 home victory over mid-table X.R.E.A.
Gavin Wright, Mark Humphries, and Gary Moseley were the victors for the champions.
Stuart Smith and skipper Liam Brooks, who inflicted a first defeat of the season on his Railway counterpart Paul Goacher by a 56-28 scoreline, took the two points for X.R.E.A.
The battle between Eastbourne Con Club and Transport for the last remaining automatic promotion place went the way of Transport 4-1.
Trevor Simmons, Dave Taylor, captain Ray Swatridge and Alan Wickens recorded the promotion-winning frames for the busboys.
Phil Carter prevented the whitewash by outpointing Norman Rae 47-38 in the final frame for the Con Club’s consolation point.
Hailsham MI B, newly-promoted into division two next season, completed their season with a 3-2 away win over Angling Club B.
Neal Kent, skipper Clive Kidman and Hugh Galt pulled off HMI B’s winning frames.
Norman Lippett and Vic Padget replied for Angling B.
Police, the surprise package in division three, just missed out on promotion. They amassed 68 points and finished in sixth place following a 4-1 home win over the bottom team HMI F.
Andy Mozley, the HMI F skipper, prevented the whitewash with a 52-45 black ball victory over Charlie Anastasi.
Two teams at the lower end of the division three table, Hailsham Club C and Fire Brigade, met at the Hailsham Club with the home team pulling off a 4-1 win.
Brian Sparks, Stuart Smith, Brian Powell and Tony Askham recorded the winning frames for Hailsham Club. Pete Marsden defeated Aled Evans for the solitary Brigade win.
Dolphin cueman Ben Murray compiled the highest division three break with 39, while Goacher had the most wins with 25.
Nuthouse A were crowned division two champions following their 5-0 whitewash of three-man Seaford Royal British Legion.
Ian Townsend, Glen Williams and Marcel Compton recorded the three contested winning frames, while Martin Halpin and Martin Noakes claimed the two walkover points.
Glastonbury A, who had to be content with the runners-up spot, completed their league programme with a 4-1 away win over third-bottom Hailsham MI E. Tokki Yamaguchi, Tom Burke, Matt Smith and Grant Martins recorded Glastonbury’s winning frames.
Paul Crouch stopped Paul Croft 55-37 to record the sole win for an HMI E side which will be relegated into division three next season. They finished with the same number of points as fourth-bottom Ministries.
