Cup joy for Glastonbury after league agony
DIVISION two outfit Glastonbury triumphed in the John Hughes Cup final after a hard fought game against Seaford at Hailsham Memorial Club.
The Glastonbury A-team narrowly missed the Division Two league title after finishing runner’s up.
Seaford Legion’s season ended with relegation into division three so this was truly a David versus Goliath contest.
The match opened with the Glastonbury captain Matt Smith up against Martin Coombes. Matt took an early lead and was never headed winning with ease 67-29
Next up for Glastonbury was Tokki Yamaguchi against Matt Pynn. It was a scrappy game and the frame was decided when Matt potted a difficult long pink to win the frame 56-44.
Grant Martins for the Glastonbury was in fine form. He recorded a 32 break and won the frame in emphatic style 69-3 against Ian Robb.
The vital fourth frame for both teams was contested between the Snooker League secretary Richard Barnicoat and Andy Wells.
Richard took an early lead, Andy kept in touch with some fortunate snookers.
The frame came down to the last few colours but Richard held his nerve and took the frame win on the pink 49-33.
It gave some consolation for Glastonbury having missed out on the league title.
Colin Angior refereed the match.
