Skater Ben in glorious form at Goodwood Roller Marathon

Eastbourne skater Ben Dowding showed style and stamina to win the U18 Good ward Roller Marathon.

The Marathon this year was busier than ever attracting around 1,200 skaters of all ages and raising a staggering amount of money and awareness for the NSPCC.

Many of the skaters were from Eastbourne and are regulars at Eastbourne Skating Club along with some of the marshals from the club.

The event is split into groups, the mini-marathon (two laps of Goodwood), the midi marathon (five laps) and the full marathon (11 laps or 26 miles).

All of the skaters from the club did fantastically well finishing in respectable positions.

The main event, the full marathon, is split into two sections, the over 18s and under 18s.

After a gruelling 26 miles in the summer sun Ben Dowding of the Eastbourne Skating club and Bishop Bell School was announced the winner of the under 18s full marathon and finished 27th over all.

Ben’s previous skating success was with the Coast Bladers in 2009 when the team went on to win the BBC series Skate Nation.

The Marathon is organised and run by the Camberly Skaters many of whom attended Eastbourne Extreme.

Eastbourne Skating Club or E.S.C. is a group of skaters in Eastbourne who meet every Friday and Sunday at the Sovereign Centre for their weekly skate jam.

The Friday sessions start at 6.30pm and the Sunday session starts at 5pm. All ages and abilities are welcome and you can keep up with them on facebook.

Eastbourne has a variety of skating clubs, skate parks, skate disco and skating shops and some great skaters who go on to represent Eastbourne in skate hockey, slalom, speed skating and other events.
