Three in a row for Fives star Tessa

Tessa Mills

Tessa Mills

Eastbourne College pupil, Tessa Mills won the Rugby Fives National Schools Girls’ Senior Singles title for the third year running.

She played and won six consecutive rounds of singles before meeting Rugby School’s number one female player in the final.

This close and tense game before a packed gallery saw Tessa emerge triumphant once again.

In the doubles, Tessa was joined by fellow Eastbourne College pupil, Isabella Why.

The two girls reached the final where they met Rugby School’s first pair. They played a very good match but had to settle for the silver doubles medals.

Tessa’s achievement is especially notable as the competition gets stronger each year and as defending champion she is the girl everyone wants to beat. Isabella, with less experience than Tessa, showed great resolve and skill throughout the competition.

Last Sunday, Eastbourne College Year 9 pupils, Augusta King and Zanna Cooper competed in the U14 Rugby Fives National Schools Girls’ Tournament at Marlborough College.

Both girls played very well, finishing fourth and seventh overall in the singles competition. This performance was particularly impressive as the girls only started playing fives this year.
