Dead- heat for jockey Charlie
Charlie Marshall
St Bede’s Charlie Marshall is the new (joint) Point to Point Pony Racing champion, following a thrilling race at the South East Area Finals at Plumpton Racecourse.
Both races provided a thrilling end to a great day of horse racing but it was the second pony race that caught the eye of the professionals and punters alike. Long time pony racing rivals Charlie Marshall and George Crate (15) from Surrey were amongst the six finalists.
The pair remained locked together up the finishing straight and a photo finish was called.
Using the racecourse technology, judge Felix Wheeler was unable to separate the two and a dead heat was announced – a first in pony racing history.
The thriving equestrian department at St Bede’s has fully supported Charlie’s racing ambitions,
“Ultimately I want to be a jump jockey and George wants to race on the flat so this was probably the last time we will meet on the track.
“It was a great way to finish the season.” Charlie will now set his sights on the National Racecourse Series, aiming his five year old pony Thereshegoes for a place in the National Finals at Newmarket Racecourse in October.
