Eastbourne Cricket club will begin their Sussex Premier League campaign as they welcome Horsham to the Saffrons on Saturday.

Horsham will likely provide a tough challenge for Mark Tomsett’s men as they finished runner’s up in the Premier League last season.

Eastbourne finished the 2011 league campaign in a mid-table position after a brief flirtation with the relegation places.

This year however, Mark Tomsett’s men will no doubt be eyeing the top end of the table with chairman Ian Fletcher-Price believing they can challenge for the title.

Fletch said, “We have everything in place off the pitch and have provided the right platform for the team to go out and perform.

“We have a tremendous groundsman, and we have also been successful in terms of sponsorship.

“We are all looking forward to the start of the season and can’t wait to get the action underway.”

Last month the club also announced their deal to bring in Aussie Aaron Mullins as their overseas player for 2012.

Mullins is a right-handed top order batsman who bowls left arm spin.

He is a former Australian youth international player and also represented East Torrens District.

Fletch added, “We have done our research on this lad and we believe he will be a tremendous asset to the side.”

Skipper Tomsett piled on the runs for the side in 2011 and will be hoping for another successful season. Last year he finished as the Sussex Premier League top scorer with 771 runs.

Former England international bowler Ed Giddins has also agreed to sign on for another season. He was the leading wicket taker for Eastbourne last year and was one of the league’s most economical bowlers.

The seconds are also in action this Saturday as Luke Tomsett leads his side to play at Horsham for a 1pm start.
