Rugby club urged to relax

Director of rugby Nigel Gossedge remains in temporary charge of Eastbourne tomorrow (Saturday) as they go in search of their first points of the campaign.

Gossedge has stepped in to oversee the first team following the departure of coach Rick Walshaw.

The Blue and Golds are in dire straits having lost all six of their matches to date in London South East Two.

This weekend, they travel to second from bottom Purley John Fisher, needing to win by 35 points to leapfrog them in the table.

The good news for Eastbourne is that the team are at full strength, with the imminent return from injury of Matt Thompson and James Coulthard, who have been sorely missed.

James Bremer has come out of his self-imposed retirement and is also looking to challenge for first team selection.

The Blue and Golds may face an uphill task to avoid the drop but Gossedge remains confident.

He said, "The most important thing is that the players start believing in themselves.

"They need to relax and enjoy their rugby and then the results will look after themselves.

"These players are capable. It is my role to help them bring their talent out."
