Winning try and England call-up for Marler

Joe Marler

Joe Marler

EASTBOURNE’S Joe Marler booked Harlequins a place in their first Premiership final thanks to his match-winning try.

Marler’s try against Northampton was scored with 10 minutes to go, leaving team-mate Nick Evans with the responsibility to convert for the match. Northampton were leading 12-9 at half-time but Marler’s heroics started a comeback which Quins eventually won 25-23.

Quins will face Leicester, a side who will be competing in their eighth successive Premiership final, in a fortnight’s time.

Marler was only two-years-old when Quins last met Harlequins in a cup final at Twickenham back in 1993.

The 21-year-old, who is known for his extravagant haircuts, is also likely to make his first appearance for his country after being named in England’s 42-man squad to tour South Africa next month

Marler is joined by eight of his Quin’s team-mates with Premiership Player of the Season Chris Rodshaw continuing his role as captain.
