Nothing to lose as Bourne take the Medway test

ACTION looks set to resume for Eastbourne Rugby Club this weekend as they face high-flying Medway at Park Avenue.

Eastbourne’s previous two fixtures were postponed following the cold snap that swept the country earlier this month.

But, with temperatures increasing and the last of the snow finally melting away, Roger Stanley’s men look set to get back under-way at 2.30pm on Saturday.

Stanley said, “It’s been frustrating not to play but it’s been expected. There’s just nothing you can do about it.”

Eastbourne’s last taste of competitive action was against table-toppers Crowborough and now they face the second-placed side in the league, Medway.

“They’re a good side, a very good side. It’ll be a tough test, as we’re facing the league’s top two sides one after the other, albeit a fortnight apart.”

Last time the two teams met back in October, Eastbourne were on the end of a 57-15 thrashing and Stanley will be hoping his men put in a better shift this time round.

“There’s no pressure on us so we’ve got nothing to lose. We’ve been doing a lot of indoor fitness training because of the weather but hopefully we’ll be able to get some match practice outside before Saturday.”

Stanley is still waiting to find out the availability of four of his key players.

“James Coulthard should be back but Josh Imich and Will Bettles depends on whether they get called up to county league action again, as those matches were also postponed last week.

“Oli Brooks has also been called up to Essex Under-20s, so depending on when their match is rearranged for depends on whether he’ll be available to face Medway.”

Eastbourne’s postponed match against Folkestone looks set to be rearranged for late March/early April as their opponents have cup commitments the weekend after next.
