Marler makes a good impression on debut

Eastbourne’s Joe Marler played 76 minutesduring his full international debut as England were beaten 22-17 in South Africa on Saturday.

Marler, 21, started in Durban, the first of a three test series, and performed well in the first half as England held the Springboks 6-6 at half-time.

However, the home side improved after the break and were too powerful for England in the second half.

Marler was replaced on 76 minutes by Doran Jones. England now face the daunting task of attempting to level the series at Ellis Park in Johannesburg.
