EASTBOURNE Rugby Club hopes to shut the door on a dismal year with a victory this weekend.

The Blue and Golds travel to Sheppey on Saturday for their last game of a campaign which has seen them win only once away to Crawley; a win later wiped from the records following the club’s expulsion.

It leaves Eastbourne rock bottom of the London and South East Three with only two bonus points and only a restructure could save them from relegation to Sussex One.

The club hopes to end their season on a high when they travel to Kent this weekend to face a Sheppey side who only sit two places above Eastbourne in the table, albeit it with a gap of 32 points. When the sides met back in September, Sheppey took the honours by only a marginal victory of 13-5.

The match will be Roger Stanley’s last as coach of the first team after two years in the role. Eastbourne Rugby Club Chairman Fraser Brooks said, “We’d like to thank Roger for all he’s done for us.”
