Eastbourne cricketers suffered Sussex Premier League relegation agony as they were beaten by 107 runs on the final day of the season by Bexhill at the Saffrons.
Eastbourne had to secure maximum points on the final day of the campaign and hope other results worked in their favour.
But a comprehensive defeat saw Luke Tomsett’s men bowled out for just 127 as they chased 234 and next season Eastbourne will compete in the second tier of the Sussex Cricket League.
Eastbourne won the toss and elected to field but an unbeaten 124 from Bexhill’s Asher Zaidi saw them reach 234-8 from 58 overs.
In reply wickets fell all to often for Eastbourne. Delray Rawlings top scored with 32 but Eastbourne were all done after 32 overs, well short off their target.
Tomsett said, “We are all extremely disappointed and hurting.”
Middleton were also relegated while Cuckfield narrowly survived as they finished just three points above Eastbourne.
Roffey took the title by four points above East second placed Grinstead.
