Polegate were crowned champions of the 2013 Knock Out Plate Final at the Saffrons after beating Chalvington and Ripe CC by eight wickets with four balls to spare.
It was certainly a day for the batsmen as 280 runs were scored for the loss of just three wickets across the day.
Making their first appearance in the competition, Chalvington and Ripe opened the batting after Polegate won the toss and opted to bowl.
Alex Pollard and Andy Benz hit 79 and 55 respectively to help their side post a final total of 139 for 1.
The only wicket was claimed by Baba Saracouli with 1 for 39.
In reply, the East Sussex Division Four outfit made steady progress to 141 for 2 and sealed the victory with four balls to spare. Steve Hover and Siraj Mashood were the top-scorers for the eventual victors with 39 and 37 respectively.
The Plate Trophy was presented to Polegate Captain Siraj Mashood by Ian Fletcher-Price, Eastbourne CC Chairman.
The match umpires were Stuart Tibble for Polegate and Dave Pollard for Chalvington and Ripe. Angela Hobden was the official scorer, all helping to make the evening a success.
If there were a prize for the most sporting gesture in the competition, it would have to go to Michael O’Callaghan in the semi-final match against Firle, who without hesitation offered substitute fielders to Firle until the relevant players arrived at the Saffrons.
