Eastbourne Rugby Club have appointed England deaf international coach Mal Chumbley as their new director.
Chumbley will work alongside first team coach Rob Outen as the Blue and Golds seek an upturn in fortunes following their relegation from the London South East three league last season.
Chumbley, formerly of the Royal Navy, is also the Rugby Development Officer for Sussex RFU.
Eastbourne chairman Fraser Brooks said, “We are delighted to bring in someone of Mal’s knowledge and experience.
“He is a level three coach, has great knowledge of Sussex rugby and has done some fantastic work with the England deaf international side.
“We are looking forward to working with him and I’m sure the combination of Mal and Rob Outen will be very beneficial for the club.”
Meanwhile, on Saturday, Eastbourne Rugby Club hosted the Sussex Cup final between Chichester and East Grinstead. In front of a large Park Avenue crowd, Grinstead, led by former Eastbourne player Dom Groenen, won 31-19. Trophies were presented by Dr Roger Edmonson, secretary of Sussex RFU.
