Last British man standing Jamie Baker put up a brave battle against seventh seed Philipp Kohlschreiber but it just wasn’t enough to keep him in the tournament.

The British number four pushed the German to three sets, with the score finishing at 6-3 in each, twice in favour of the world number 29.

Baker, ranked 200 in the world, had progressed to the second round after an impressive victory over world number 50 Donald Young in his opening match.

However, this gulf in rankings was just too much for him as, despite making a comeback to level the score after losing the first set, he was unable to keep up the momentum and crashed out of the competition.
