World Indoor Tetra medals for Slaughter

Eastbourne Rover Athletic Club’s Brian Slaughter just keeps winning medals.

Even though he is at the top of his age group he decided only two days before the event to travel to Helsinki for the World Indoor Tetra Decathlon.

The two day competition is based on 14 different disciplines from 60m, Long Jump, 800m, Shot Put, 400m, High Jump and 3000m on day one. Day two saw 60m Hurdles, Pole Vault, 1500m, Weight Throw, 200m, Triple Jump and rounded off on the Sunday evening with a 25 lap 5000m.

Brian on this occasion didn’t win but was well worthy of this world silver as the top four broke the world record. Brian’s total of 8788 was some 1300 points better.

Attention for the club turns to Track and Field league with this weekend staging a home match at Eastbourne Sports Park for the Joint Men and Women’s Southern Athletic League.

Team managers Stuart Pelling and Hannah Ingram have been preparing to build on last year’s inaugural league season. Events start from midday as the club host Chichester, Holland Sports and the mighty Tonbridge.
