The first of this season’s cross-country events was held at Whitbread Hollow in Eastbourne with a three-lap tough course on tracks near Hollywell.
This event, which forms part of the East Sussex Sunday League, saw 175 runners competing and Hailsham Harriers provided some great competition with 24 of their runners scoring good points.
First home for Harriers was Gary Judges, who provided another impressive run to finish sixth in a race won by Daniel Anderson, of Hastings AC, in 28min45sec.
Support was provided by Paul Standen-Payne in 19th and Ciaran Bregazzi in 29th with many other Harriers finishing in the top 50.
In the combined ladies’ race, an excellent performance was provided by Sue Fry, who won the race and was also placed 33rd overall with superb support from Jo Curran, who was second lady and 35th overall.
The testing tracks on this course were dry and the weather conditions were chilly early on but ideal for this type of event.
