Jenny Hughes prepares to run the Brighton Marathon.

HAMPDEN Park Tennis Club coach Jenny Hughes is preparing to run the Brighton Marathon this weekend in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Sunday’s event will be the longest distance Jenny has ever taken on and she in running in aid of the cancer charity close to her heart.

Jenny was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in late 2006 but, with the help of Macmillan Cancer Support, was given the all-clear less than a year later.

Sadly, though, Jenny has since lost both her brother and mother to cancer. Her brother, who died in 2008, suffered a long battle with the deadly disease while her mum, who found it very difficult to recover after the loss of her son, fell ill in October 2010 and passed away in February last year.

Jenny is raising money for the charity that helped her family through such tough times.

She says, “The Macmillan Cancer Care team do an amazing job and they were always there with support about anything and everything.

“As my strength has improved over the last three years, I’ve been looking for a challenge to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support to thank them for helping save my life and in memory of my mum, my brother and friends who have not survived cancer.”

Jenny started training in September and has nearly raised £3,000 for the charity. She hopes to exceed this amount once the race is completed on Sunday.
