Faye is crowned world champion
Eastbourne triathlete, Faye McClelland, was crowned world champion in New Zealand this weekend, and has now been shortlisted for next month’s Sussex Sports Awards in Brighton.
Faye, who trains at Bodywise XTC in the town retained her World Triathlon T4 ParaTriathlon title in Auckland.
The Paratriathlon is set to make its debut at the Paralympic Games in Rio in 2016,
The reigning World and European Para-triathlon champion, Faye has also been shortlisted for the University of Brighton Disabled Sports Personality of the Year.
She has won the world title three times and the European title twice, most recently triumphing by an amazing 12-minute margin.
Nineteen-year-old Laurence Curtis has been shortlisted for both the Sussex Sport Magazine Young Coach of the Year Award and the Wave Leisure Young Volunteer of the Year Award. A student at the University of Brighton, Laurence introduced handball to the university, and from scratch the university now has a men’s team competing in a national student competition.
Shortlisted for the Outstanding Contribution to Sport Award is 55-year-old Dr Nick Webborn of Sportwise. Based at the University of Brighton’s Chelsea School in Eastbourne, Dr Webborn is regarded as one of the most eminent sports doctors in the UK.
The awards ceremony takes place at the Hilton Metropole on November 23.
