‘A shocking swim’ hinders Yvette in Barcelona triathlon
Yvette Grice
Yvette Grice returned to competitive triathlon for the first time in six months as she took part in Challenge Barcelona last weekend.
Equipped with her impressive new bike from sponsors Blue, the Eastbourne athlete headed to Spain for the Challenge Family event.
However, after what she described as a ‘shocking swim, not a great bike and an average run’, Yvette finished in fifth place, three positions behind fellow Great Britain representative Lucy Gossage.
Yvette headed into the first event of her season on the back of wins in both the Eastbourne Half Marathon and the Milton Keynes Marathon, which she completed well despite some atrocious conditions.
The two events, the latter of which was the first time Yvette had run a full marathon on its own, were used to help her prepare for her return to the triathlon circuit after a winter out.
However, the professional triathlete was unable to find the same good form in Barcelona and finished the three-pronged event in 4h28m44s, 14 minutes behind the winner, Camilla Pedersen, from Denmark.
Yvette expressed her disappointment via Twitter but hopes she can only move onwards and upwards from here as she prepares to head into the Ironman triathlon, which she won in 2010.
