Not even the damp weather can deny Polegate their victory

POLEGATE and Stone Cross seconds defied appalling weather to pull off an eight-wicket victory away to Rottingdean thirds in their East Sussex County League division 9 match .

Put in to bat, the home team never found scoring easy - with Polegate’s spin twins, youngsters Emmett Johnson and Nathan Hover, doing most of the damage despite constant rain.

The first wicket fell in the 15th over with just 28 on the board and the rest followed succinctly, with wicketkeeper-captain Alan Williams claiming four victims, two caught and two stumped, including both Rottingdean’s top scorers, Alistair Hatch (33) and Bradley Smith (32).

Rottingdean eventually tallied a score of 124-7 from the full fifty overs.

The Polegate reply faltered slightly when Hart was bowled for 11 by Tom Elliott, shortly following by the second wicket thirty runs later.

However, opener Andy Johnson was unperturbed - eventually taking Polegate to victory with the first half-century scored by a Polegate seconds player this season.

Johnson Senior ended with 65 not out, with number four batsman Clive Harris back from injury to contribute a fine undefeated 25 to ensure Polegate reached their target in the thirty-third over, at 125-2.
