BUDDING Tom Daleys will get the chance to show off their moves at the Sovereign Centre’s first ever diving competition.
The competition, an independent event for those who have had or are currently having diving lessons at the Sovereign Centre in 2012, will run within the guidelines of the Amateur Swimming Association and FINA, the international governing body of diving.
Tony Gaskell, head diving coach, said, “With the Olympics coming up everyone wants to be a Tom Daley.
“Having been a diver myself and taken part in competitions I wanted to give the kids an experience of taking part in an event at competition standard.”
The event will be split into two age groups of 11 years and under and 12-16 with boys and girls events being run separately.
Everyone competing will perform four dives each at heights of one and three metres with five judges overlooking them.
The competitors will be judged on stance, take-off, the dive and entry into the water.
At the end of the competition Paul Matthews, Sovereign Centre manager, will present those placed first, second and third with gold, silver and bronze medals.
The event will commence at 6pm tomorrow (Saturday).
