Eastbourne under 10s rugby team played with plenty of determination to become joint winners of Sussex Festival. Two 30 – 0 victories, the first against Uckfield and then repeated against Heathfield, gave them confidence ahead of their final group match.

They played Brighton, who were also unbeaten in the group, with the strong defences of both sides resulting in a 5 – 5 scoreline. Eastbourne progressed to the final thanks to their superior try difference having scored 13, conceding one. The final was another close affair, up against Crowborough, and they were behind for a large spell of the match, Eastbourne never gave up and were rewarded with a minute left to play when they scored an equalising try to make it 5 – 5. The referee blew the whistle for full time and a coin was tossed to decide who would progress to the regional final. Unfortunately for Eastbourne, their luck did not much their rugby ability.
