Timo Lahti was named as the Eastbourne Eagles’ rider of the year at the club’s annual dinner dance on Friday.
Lahti, the 20-year-old Finnish rider, had a stunning year which saw him shoot up the Eagles’ score-charts and move from the reserve berth into the main team.
Team manager and co-promoter Trevor Geer said, “This award is richly deserved. Timo was absolutely brilliant for us throughout the season.
“I could see before the league got under way he was set for a good year. He was well set up and at the pre-season practice sessions Timo looked fast and confident. So, it was no surprise he did well this year but no-one can say they expected him to score as many points as he did.
“He only missed one match all season and scored more than 200 points.”
