On a bright Sunday morning, Willingdon held a St. George’s Day Shotgun Competition.
The overall winners were the “Outsiders” team comprising Ken Penfold, Mark Clement, Paul Sutton and Steve Thornton with 114 points.
Runners-up with 111 points were the J20’s comprising Barry Lockyer, Richard Collins, Alan Huggett and John Dunning, who won on the back 9.
In third place were the Puritans comprising Derek Head, Ian Fletcher, Peter Lindop and Brian Watkinson also with 11 points.
The best outfit on the day was won by Mark Hurst. After the competition, the competitors retired to the restaurant where Chef Roger Fuller served a traditional roast beef English lunch and the members enjoyed a “cockney knees up” laid on the “Barrowboys”.
Willingdon had an emphatic 4-0 victory over Lewes in the first round of the Cyril Blake Cup on Monday.
The leading pair of Brian Ashman and Robin Abbott beat Terry Ferber and Dick Turk 2 and 1.
Colin Wood and Keiron Packham beat Paul Harley and Norman Mayhew 5 and 4.
A 6 and 5 scoreline saw Derek Head and Ken Gibbons beat Graham Forster and John Burch whilst Brian Hepburn and Shaun South won 5 and 3 against Doug Burgess and Lionel Dorn. Willingdon will now play Holtye away on 13th May.
