Tennis young guns shine on county and national stage

Stephanie and Sergio Vieira, Lemuel and Lilli Cassidy, Imogen Mcnaugton- Ely and Olivia Stapley are some of the most promising young players within the David Lloyd Club tennis training programme.

Between them they mopped up many of the honours in this summer’s Sussex junior tennis tournaments.

At the end of August Stephanie Vieira, won the Sussex under-9 Championships, played at the Weald L.T.C.

Earlier she had also won the Sutton Tennis and Squash Club under-9 Open Champs. Stephanie has also been attending national training sessions with other top players of her age.

Stephanie’s brother Sergio, only 7, also shows exceptional promise. Although the youngest player in the event, he was runner –up in the Sussex under 9 Championships.

Imogen Mcnaugton-Ely and Lilli Cassidy are in the same training group at the Lloyd Club as Sergio.

They won tournaments at Withdean, Brighton, West Worthing and Devonshire Park.

Imogen was the runner-up at The Weald, Limpsfield and Seaford. Lilli was beaten finalist in the Sussex Junior Champs. Imogen was awarded as winner of the LTA Summer County Championships Tour on her age group.

Training in an older age group at the Lloyd Club, Lilli’s brother Lemuel, was runner up in the Sussex under 10 champs.

Earlier he’d won under 10 tournaments at The Weald and Devonshire Park.

Another Lloyd Club member, Olivia Stapley, was runner-up in the Sussex under 12 champs.

In May Emma Birch, Matthew Scarrat, Gregory Ashley Taylor and Haydyn Jeary won the Aegon Team Tennis Under 8 Years for the Lloyd Club.

The club’s tennis manager, Luciano Cestari, says, “We are fortunate to have so many promising young players. They train hard at the club, are very enthusiastic and set an excellent example for all the other young players on our programme. Some of these are as young as four”
