EASTBOURNE table-tennis star Josh Bennett reached the quarter-final of the Cadet Boys Band 1 Singles at the prestigious Tees Sport Sussex 4 Star Open tournament held in Crawley.
Seeded seventh in the under-15s age-groups, he won through his group before losing in the last eight to third seed Luke Savill from Kent.
Bennett, 13, also reached the quarter-final of in the older category, the under-18s Junior Band 2 Singles, where he was beaten by Lobsang Lama from Surrey.
A summer practising in her native Hong Kong paid off for St Bedes student Yuki Wat who won the Junior Open Girls Singles beating the No.1 seed Tin Tin Ho from Middlesex in the semi-final 11-9/11-6/11-9.
In the final Yuki, 17, caused another upset by overcoming the talented No.3 seed Tressa Armitage (Hampshire) 11-4/5-11/12-10/11-8.
Yuki also won the Band 1 Singles event. Seeded three, she overcame higher ranked players Nicole Hall (Wales) 11-4/11-9/10-12/3-11/11-9 in the final and top seed Maria Tsaptsinos (Berkshire) in the semi-final.
