Swimmers from Eastbourne Swimming Club showed just what they could do when they recently took part in the club’s ever-popular annual Open Meet.

The event attracted competitors from nine different clubs across Sussex and Surrey, all hoping to gain County and Regional qualifying times, making competition tough particularly against the 54-strong Hastings Seagull team.

Undeterred, Eastbourne’s swimmers put in robust performances and finished the day with 39 top three placings.

For nine-year-olds Anissa MacCaskill and Eloise Key it was a particularly successful gala with both girls swimming consistently well and coming away with golds.

Kian Day, Matt Tyler and Sean Wright excelled in the 100m breaststroke events and, having little competition, all took easy gold.

Throughout the day the team’s personal successes mounted and the overall team points were increasing.

Eastbourne fought hard for the Top Boys and Top Girls team trophies but in the event Eastbourne’s 32-strong team just couldn’t overcome the might of Hastings Seagulls and had to settle for second place in both the team rankings.

All in all though, a great day for Eastbourne’s youngsters with many personal bests and county times achieved.
