Shaun Reed from Eastbourne has made the shortlist for British Cycling’s Local Cycling Heroes - a campaign to recognise the sterling work done by grassroots volunteers across the UK.
From almost one hundred entries, Shaun has been shortlisted for giving up his time and energy to inspire others to get the most out of their riding.
When he’s not running the family motor business, organising the British Cycling Go-Ride races at Filching Manor, East Sussex, or the Eastbourne Cycle Festival, he runs a weekly cycling group for young people. These are designed to boost confidence at all levels -from helping someone leave their stabilisers, to coaching them on how to ride in a pack.
“My three sons attend his Friday evening Pedal Power class and absolutely love it,” says Jacky Cordner, who nominated Shaun.
‘He has a brilliant rapport with the kids and to them, he’s already a champion.’
