SOVEREIGN Saints’ UNDER-11s won their first ever trophy at the Bexhill Town Tournament last weekend.

After topping the group stage unbeaten, they comfortably dispatched Glenco B 2-0 in the semi-final thanks to goals in each half from Shaun Smedley and Charlie Wilkins.

The final, against Glenco A, was a much tighter affair and at half time Saints trailed 1-0.

They deservedly equalised after the break via a well taken Harry Hanaway half volley. It finished 1-1, and with extra time producing no more goals, it went to penalties.

Smedley, Wilkins and Hanaway scored Saints’ first three spot kicks, and Will Williams saved Glenco’s second and third.

As Joe Sambrook stepped up to take Saints’ fourth, he knew it was for the win and under extreme pressure and to huge cheers, calmly side footed it in.

Congratulations to the whole team: Will Williams, Charlie Wilkins, Ben Rushmere, Shaun Smedley, Harry Hanaway, Joe Sambrook and Zac Bracken.
