Eastbourne sailing star Olivier Greber was selected for the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships after he was crowned RYA under-19 Youth National Champion last weekend.
Olivier, of Pevensey Bay Sailing Club, won the title with his sailing partner James Henson in the multihull catamaran Spitfire class after five days of intense racing at Largs Sailing Club in Scotland.
They will travel to Limassol, Cyprus from July 11-20 to defend the ISAF Youth Worlds Nations Trophy which RYA Volvo Team GBR won last year in Dublin Bay.
The Eastbourne sailors selection was revealed by double Olympic gold medallist Sarah Ayton OBE at the Youth National Championship prizegiving.
Olivier said, “ It feels amazing to be selected after all the hard work we’ve done over the winter. It’s a privilege to be chosen as many great athletes have competed in this event in the past.
“Selections were tough but we had a lot of confidence going into the event as we had won the Datchet cat open and practice regatta at our recent training camp.
“It will be a huge honour to represent GB at the ISAFS as it is the pinnacle of youth sailing and a lot of very successful sailors have competed for GB at the ISAFS. It will be an exciting and very competitive event as only the best from each country gets selected; this will provide a huge challenge which we will thrive on.”
