Ratton Rangers U11s completed their summer season on a high as they emerged winners of the Sedlescombe Rangers tournament on Sunday.

The Ratton youngsters scored 23 goals on their way to victory with 16 of them coming in their last five games without reply.

Three wins, a draw and two losses saw them qualify as 2nd best but having scraped through the group they showed their true form in the knock stages.

They won 5-0 against Hastings United in the quarter final with goals from Barnard (2), Hutchinson, Elliot and Gausden. They faced Woddingdean, who beaten Ratton in the group stages, in the semi and two goals from Hutchinson and another from Barnard saw them through.

This set up an all Eastbourne Final as Ratton faced last year’s champions Pevensey and Westham, who had reached the final without conceding a single goal all day.

However it was Ratton who came out on top in a closely fought tense final. Charlie Barnard opened the scoring with a penalty but the game was never safe until Barnard produced some fine skill to score his and Ratton’s second to deservedly win the game.
