The finals of the Eastbourne Women’s Bowls Competitions took place last Friday at the Royal Sovereign Bowls Club in Princes Park.
The Cameron Cup singles tournament, started back in May with 33 players entering the competition and concluded with Rachel Machriel and Pauline Packham, both members of Saffron Bowls Club, meeting in the final.
Rachel took the lead from the beginning of the match and claimed the title with a final score of 21-2.
In the Pairs competition, Cherrie Stephens and Sandra Richardson were up against Sheila Simmons and Rene Baker, both teams belonging to Saffron Ladies Bowls Club.
Simmons and Baker took the lead and were 8 - 17 up on the 12th end.
However Stephens and Richardson made a comeback to win the match 22 – 21.
Entries for the Lifeboat Triples were up this year, with 24 teams entering the competition.
In the final, Gill Hill, Rene Baker and Sheila Simmons from Saffron Ladies Bowls Club met Brenda Jowers, Wendy Ryan and Kathy Pease from Hailsham Bowling Club.
The match started off evenly but the Saffron’s team pulled away, winning the match with a score of 24 – 8.
Dr Jane Mercer, the vice chair of the RNLI Eastbourne branch, presented the trophies and gratefully accepted a donation cheque for £275 raised from the Lifeboat Triples competition.
