Pierce cracks six from final ball to seal thrilling victory for Stone Cross

The second round of handicap matches saw a thriller between Stone Cross and Duetwag Chargers.

Batting first, Duetwag scored 163 with Malcolm Harris 54 not out, Stephanie Bassett 28, Marcus Powell-Cunningforth 23 and a 25 handicap enabling them to set a target of 164.

The expierience shone through for Stone Cross as Ian Moon 70 not out, Kevin March 38 and Stuart Pierce with a vital six scoring the winning run of the last ball.

Division five’s ROMPA put up a brave fight against first division Trojans.

Fine bowling and fielding restricted ROMPA to 27 for 7 in five overs but they dug in and managed to reach 74 all out and with the handicap (100) set a target of 175.

Matt Sievwright 54 and Sharon Lewes 45 put on 99 for the opening partnership in nine overs. Grant Smith 51 and Karly Townsend, both undefeated, then saw Trojans safely through.

Shane White scored 44 for Willingdon but it wasn’t enough to stop Victoria.

Sally Clarke took 5-57 for Victoria and Chris Tipping retired undefeated with the bat as they won comfortably to proceed to the next round.

In division two Lamb Old Town ended Old Town Wreckers unbeaten start to the season.

Batting first, Simon Parks 68, David Twine 37, Spencer Davies 29 not out and Josh Clarke 17 not out dispatched the Wreckers bowlers to all parts of the ground as they scored 177 in 14 overs. Fine bowling from Jane Fensom 4-26 and David Twine 3-17 cut short the Wreckers innings for 82.

Centra maintained their fine form with a win over Park Royal.

Lil Johnson 25, Gareth Wall 35 and Simon Marsden enabled Centra to score 128. Bridgette Hoad claimed six Centra wickets.

Jacqui Smith continued her fine bowling form taking 6-40 as Park Royal could only muster 90.

Division three Woolpack pulled off an improbable victory over Victoria as they could only field eight players.

Batting first, Robin Sewell 58 top scored for Victoria in their total of 120. An undefeated partnership between Tim Carter 39 and Phil Gibbs 59 (who also returned bowling figures of 6-53) saw Woolpack to victory in the last over.

Steve Thompson returned amazing figures of 6-17 as Duetwag succumbed for 58. Plummer Parsons passed the target and remain unbeaten.

Oasis windows and Roselands played out a close game in division four. Oasis Windows’ Raul San Emeteri 33, Colin Golding 46 and Paul Harmer 26 not out set a target of 158. In-form James Curry 97 not out and John Summerbell 43 just got Roselands home in the last over.
