Young tennis player Joseph Parks has been nominated Junior Coach of the Year at the Tennis in the Park.
The 12-year-old has been playing tennis from the age of six and has been coaching the youngsters at Gildredge Park.
Francis Mackie, the club’s director of tennis said, “Joe is an amazing young man who first started playing tennis when he was six-years-old,
“He has been part of the club’s assistant coaching team for the last three years and in that time he has developed his knowledge of the game, communication skills and hielf confidence.
“Joe is really popular with all the young children in the programme and everyone at the club thanks him for all his hard work.”
Tennis in the Park has more than 900 registered players and the club’s coaching programme relies not just on the professional coaching staff but also on it’s team of young volunteer assistant coaches.
The club recently launched a young coaching apprentice scheme, whereby youngsters like Joe are trained as Lawn Tenis Association leaders and get involved both in the club’s term time and holiday camp programs.
